Christopher Johnson, 64, from Whetstone, died while working at Cambridge Auto Services, in Eastleigh Road, in Leicesters West End.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 3pm on Thursday.

Firefighters used specialised equipment, including high-pressure airbags, to free Mr Johnson – but he died at the scene.

A spokeswoman for the police said: “We were called to the garage, in Eastleigh Road, at about 3pm, on Thursday, November 18.

“We have been investigating, and are being assisted by the Health and Safety Executive.

“We do not believe the circumstances surrounding the death to be suspicious.”

Inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have visited the site to gather evidence. A spokeswoman for the HSE said: “I can confirm that we are investigating jointly with police and we are expecting the case to be handed over soon, where our inspectors will continue their investigation.”

Mr Johnson, originally from the north east of England, leaves behind a wife and a son.

The inquest into his death will open today at Leicester Town Hall.

The three plants will have a combined capacity of around 400 megawatts of electricity, which BrightSource will provide to PG&E and Southern California Edison. Commencement of construction on the first plant was in October 2010, following permitting review by the California Energy Commission and the Department of Interior’s Bureau of Land Management. The first plant is scheduled to come online in mid-2012.
